Taken from local newspaper.
15:00 - 08 July 2006 Alsager boxing promoter Pat Brogan has offered Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo £200,000 to settle their differences in the ring. Rooney and Ronaldo almost came to blows on the field during England's World Cup quarter-final defeat to Portugal on Saturday.
England star Rooney was sent off for pushing his Manchester United team-mate and stamping on Ricardo Carvalho.
And Brogan, who has promoted world championship fights and been involved with the sport for more than 35 years, said: "They need to sort this out. I'm offering them a way to get rid of their frustrations."
He added: "It's a genuine offer - I'm willing to put £100,000 each on the table for them to box. I've already discussed it with a TV producer, and if we can get it on I'm sure millions of people would want to watch it.
"I think Rooney would be up for it, but I'm not sure about Ronaldo."
Brogan admits that the money may not be an enticement to the players to put on gloves.
Rooney earns around £6m a year in wages and endorsements, while Ronaldo signed a new £50,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford last summer.
But Brogan said: "I know they don't need the money, but they could donate it to charity.
"Ryan Giggs is involved in an appeal to raise £1m for a hospital MRI scanner, and they could give the money to that."
The 61-year-old Brogan, who is to make an official approach to Manchester United and the players, has shown in the past he has the resources to stage big bouts. Last year he tabled a £7m bid for three fights involving Britain's world light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton.
He said: "I came up with the idea right after Rooney got sent off.
"There was some aggression between them. But they don't have to take it seriously - they could box for fun."
(I dont think lol)
